What happens when you see a herbalist?
welcome > What happens when you see a herbalist?

Herbalists are trained in the same diagnostic skills as orthodox doctors

Herbalists are trained in the same diagnostic skills as orthodox doctors, but take a more holistic approach to illness. When you first see a herbalist the initial consultation will be about an hour long. During this time the herbalist will ask about the your medical history as well as the reasons for coming. Details of any medication being taken as well as the results of any tests are important in building up a complete picture of the patient’s health. Your blood pressure will be taken and, where appropriate, a physical examination may take place.

After the consultation

After the consultation you will be given herbal medicines which have been tailored to your individual need. Dietary and lifestyle advice may also be given.

Usually you are asked

Usually you are asked to make a second appointment 2 weeks after the initial consultation. This will be approximately half an hour long and will assess your progress and the effectiveness of the treatment. If necessary the prescription may be changed.

Further follow up visits

Further follow up visits take place at 6 to 8 week intervals until the condition is stable. At this point medicine may be sent by repeat prescription without a consultation.

When treatment is continues over a long period the patient must be seen at least every 6 months to review their situation.
